My short film ATHALASSA, about the harsh realities of a tuberculosis sanatorium in 1930s Cyprus, had its first screening in Nicosia, Cyprus, my hometown, on 5 November 2024.
Hosted by the University of Nicosia Medical School, the screening had more than 100 people in attendance and was followed by a panel discussion on the history of tuberculosis in Cyprus, with pulmonologist Prof. Dr. Evis Bagdades, Producer John Evangelides and myself.

Cyprus, 1936. In the midst of a raging tuberculosis epidemic, a dedicated young doctor seeks inventive ways to save his patients’ lives and protect them from the disease’s social stigma. The film is adapted from a short autobiographical story by Dr. Takis Evangelides, a Cypriot lung specialist who was a pioneer in the fight against TB in the 1930s and 40s, when the island was still a British colony.
